Men's Tennis Upends Roberts Wesleyan, 6-3

MIDDLETON, Mass. – The regionally ranked Merrimack College men's tennis program made it two wins in as many days on Sunday evening when the Warriors topped the visiting Roberts Wesleyan Redhawks, 6-3, from the Northeast Tennis Center in Middleton, Mass.

How It Happened (Doubles)
- No. 1 – Senior captain Nick Majewski (Brewster, Mass.) and junior Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) needed just 10 games to dispatch their opposition at the first flight, winning by an 8-2 gap to guarantee the Warriors a lead entering singles play
- No. 2 – For the first time as a duo, junior Frank Vega (Lima, Peru) and freshman Alex Fedorov (Guilderland, N.Y.) completed a shutout as the combination started the match with an 8-0 win
- No. 3 – Playing together for the second consecutive match, senior James Hook (Lynnfield, Mass.) and sophomore Alex Slobin (Fairfield, Mass.) played the closest match of the doubles portion, but fell by an 8-5 final
How It Happened (Singles)
- No. 1 – Playing a ranked opponent for the fourth straight contest and fifth time in his last six matches, Belov dueled with eighth-ranked Hugo Ball-Greene. Merrimack's top option won the first set, 7-6, but Ball-Greene rallied in the final two frame to best the Warriors' junior
- No. 2 – Vega started a run of three straight Merrimack wins at No. 2-4 singles with a straight-sets win at the second flight. The Peruvian won by a 7-5 final during the opener before needing a tiebreak to prevail in the second set, 7-6
- No. 3 – In the second three-set match of singles play, Majewski rallied from a 6-1 loss in the first set to tie the third flight with a 7-6 victory in the middle frame. He came out in the third frame and outlasted Dennis Barlotta, winning six of nine games to prevail
- No. 4 – Fedorov got off to a scorching start at the fourth flight, blanking his opponent in the first set before dropping only three games in a 6-3 clincher
- No. 5 – Merrimack's only other singles loss, Slobin dropped a two-set decision at the fifth flight
- No. 6 – Senior Tayyab Sheikh (Longmeadow, Mass.) played at No. 6 for the second straight match, and for the second time in as many days, the fourth-year Warrior recorded a two-set win (6-4, 6-3)
