Finigan Homers Twice as Softball Tops Bentley, 6-1

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Highlighted by the first-career multi-home run game from senior Kaleigh Finigan (Medford, Mass.), the Merrimack College softball team snapped a three-game losing skid on Tuesday with a 6-1 victory over Bentley in Northeast-10 Conference divisional play at Warrior Diamond.

How It Happened

• 2^nd inning – Following a scoreless first inning from both teams, the Warriors would hop out to an early lead with a four-run second inning. The scoring in the inning was kicked off by the first of two solo homers for Finigan, leading off the second with her third long ball of the season to give Merrimack a 1-0 lead.
• 2^nd inning – After two singles and a hit batsmen loaded the bases for Merrimack, junior Alyssa Williamson (Scarborough, Maine) would draw a walk to bring in another run and make it 2-0. Starting on the mound for the Warriors, senior captain Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.) would help her own cause and follow Williamson with a two-RBI single for a 4-0 lead after two.
• 4th inning – Allowing just two hits to Bentley through the first four inning, Currie herself would register two hits at the plate in that same span. Her second hit would also drive in a run as well, as an RBI single would mark her third RBI of the day and again stretch the lead to 5-0 as the game entered the fifth.
• 5^th inning – Finigan would add the sixth and final run in the fifth inning with her second solo homer of the game and fourth home run of the season to put the score at 6-0. Like her first home run in the second inning, Finigan would also hit her second homer as the leadoff batter in the inning.
• 7^th inning – The Falcons would break up Currie shutout bid in their final at bat, registering two of their five hits in the game in the final inning while notching their long run of the game. The run would come home after a one-out single and a two-out RBI double, but it would be the only damage Currie would allow in her eighth win of the season.

• G1: WP – Currie (8-2) 7.0 IP, 1ER, 5H, 3K
• Currie's outing on Tuesday improves her record to 8-2 and now marks 10 complete games in 10 starts. She drops her ERA on the year to 2.18, and now sees opponents hitting just .207 against her on the year.
• Finigan's career day with two home runs falls in line with her impressive senior campaign thus far. Her four home runs in 26 games this season are already two more than the two she hit in 42 games as a junior, and is just one shy of her career-high set as a sophomore.
