Men's Lacrosse Salutes Nine Seniors, Rolls Past Assumption, 17-4, in Home Regular Season Finale

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Playing in its final home game of the regular season, the third-ranked Merrimack College men's lacrosse team honored its nine graduates from the Class of 2017 on Senior Night and then rolled to its fifth straight victory, 17-4, over visiting Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday night at Martone-Mejail Field.

- Merrimack had a consistent showing in the first half, putting up five goals in both the first and second quarters to stake itself a 10-0 lead.
- Freshman Charlie Bertrand (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) had a hat trick five minutes into the second quarter, while sophomore Edward Hellier (South Portland, Maine) stopped all five shots he faced in the first half in a perfect showing.
- Both sides traded two goals apiece in the third quarter before the Warriors rounded out the night by outscoring the Greyhounds by a 5-2 margin in the final frame, finishing 4-1 at home in the regular season.
Highlights and Notables
- Bertrand recorded his ninth hat trick in 11 games this season after a five-point outing, leading all players with four markers and an assist.
- Sophomore Seamus Ford (Walpole, Mass.) was right behind Bertrand with four points (3g, 1a), registering his third straight hat trick and sixth of the season to push his season goal total to 25.
- Senior Tim Towler (Topsfield, Mass.) was the only other multi-goal scorer with an even two-tally performance, as eight other players aside the aforementioned three had exactly one marker to account for 11 different goal-scorers on the night.
- Junior Joey Diaco (West Deptford, N.J.) and senior Max Allen (West Caldwell, N.J.) had two-point outings with a goal and an assist to account for the only other multi-point performances. Diaco tied his single-game career-high in scoring, as well.
- Junior James Bassett (Getzville, N.Y.) tied his career high with five ground balls in Wednesday's win
- Freshman Nick Ponte (North Reading, Mass.) set a new career-high with six saves in the second half after Hellier's first 5-for-5 showing in the first half.
- Assumption's four goals were the second-fewest scored by a Merrimack opponent this season (AIC – 1).
