Softball to Continue NE10 Play at Bentley Wednesday; Warriors Will Host Falcons Tuesday

WALTHAM, Mass. – With the schedule continuing to change due to inclement weather, the Merrimack College softball team has announced a site flip with Bentley, as the Warriors will now play a doubleheader at Bentley on Wednesday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m., and will host the Falcons on Tuesday, April 11 for a single game at 3:00 p.m. Due to the site flip, Merrimack will serve as the home team and bat second at Bentley, while the Falcons will be the home team and bat second at Merrimack next week.

Last Time Out:

  • The Warriors opened up the Northeast-10 Conference portion of their schedule last week with a divisional doubleheader at Stonehill. Merrimack posted two dominant victories at scores of 11-0 and 8-2.
  • Sophomore Caitlin McBride (Danvers, Mass.) highlighted the Warriors' 11-run output by matching her career-high with five RBI while blasting her first home run of the season. Senior captain Haley Currie (Burlington, Mass.) pitched her second shutout of the season in the first matchup, allowing just three hits in five innings.
  • Senior Kaleigh Finigan (Medford, Mass.) would hit her second homer of the season in game two and posted three RBI, while junior Courtney Zambello (Sharon, Mass.) picked up the win on the mound, striking out four in 3.2 innings.

Last Season vs. Bentley:

  • The Warriors took three of four games from Bentley in 2016, including two of three NE10 games and wins of 4-0 and 5-1 at Warrior Softball Diamond.
  • Currie picked up a shuout in the first matchup of the season, while junior Megan Cook (Bellingham, Mass.) recorded two wins on the mound for Merrimack across the four games.

The Falcons:

  • Bentley enters Wednesday's game with a 4-7 record and have yet to play an NE10 game yet this season. They last played on March 10 during a spring trip to Florida
  • Senior Kelsey Kennedy has led the Falcons at the plate this season, batting for an impressive .471 average through 11 games. She has 16 hits on the season, with the next closest player having seven.
  • Hannah King has handled the majority of time on the mound for the Falcons, making eight appearances with six starts. She holds a 3-4 record with a 2.68 ERA.

Up Next
The Warriors will look to play games with New Haven and Southern Connecticut this weekend barring any weather postponements, with the sites of the games still to be determined.
