Women’s Soccer Opens at the Molloy Labor Day Weekend Tournament vs. Dominican

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women's soccer team kicks off the 2017 season on Friday afternoon when the Warriors take on Dominican College at 4 p.m. at the RVC Sports Complex on the campus of Molloy College. The contest marks the first of a pair of games for the Warriors this weekend during the Molloy Labor Day Weekend Tournament.

Match 1: Dominican vs. Merrimack – 4 p.m.
Match 2: Bentley vs. Molloy – 7 p.m.

Day 2 – Sunday, Sept. 3
Match 3: Dominican vs. Bentley – 11 a.m.
Match 4: Merrimack vs. Molloy – 2 p.m.

A Look back to 2016

  • Under 34th-year head coach Gabe Mejail, the Warriors finished last year with an 8-7-3 record, four points out of the Northeast-10 Conference postseason.
  • Seniors Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) and Sarah Boucher (Northbridge, Mass.) led the team in scoring with 17 and 12 points, respectively. Carter had six goals and five assists, while Boucher had five tallies and two helpers.
Last Season vs. Dominican/Molloy:
  • The Warriors faced both opponents during the Merrimack Kickoff Classic, defeating Molloy, 2-0, and Dominican (N.Y.), 5-0. Carter tallied goals in both contests, while classmate Jorgi Adee (Whitinsville, Mass.) registered a goal and an assist in the two victories.
 
The Warriors:
  • Merrimack enters the 2017 campaign predicted to finish 11th in the Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Warriors have plenty of returning players this year, including goalkeeper's senior Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) and sophomore Erin Fulton (Farmington, Conn.), but also include 12 newcomers. That includes freshman keeper Megan Langlois (Methuen, Mass.).
The Chargers:
  • Entering the 2017 season, the Chargers were predicted to finish 11th in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. Last year, they finished with a 5-11 record.
  • Junior Jenna Gray (Pine Bush, N.Y.) returns as the leading scorer with six goals and 13 points, while classmate Angelica Contreras (Baytown, Texas) comes back as the main keeper for Dominican.
The Lions:
  • Entering the 2017 season, the Lions were predicted to finish fifth in the East Coast Conference (ECC). Last year, Molloy finished with a 7-8-2 record.
  • Junior Katlyn Merino (Corona, N.Y.) returns as the top scorer for the Lions, after finishing second on the team with 19 points and eight goals. She also was tied for the team lead with three assists.
