NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's soccer team will have its home opener against No. 7 LIU Post, on Saturday, in the friendly confines of Martone-Mejail Field at 6 p.m. It will be the second nationally-ranked team the Warriors will have faced this season.
Last Time Out
- The Warriors dropped a tough 2-0 contest to Bentley on Wednesday night.
- Merrimack has outshot its opponents 68-35, including 36-14 in the first half.
- Seniors Cassie Giza (Orange, Conn.) and Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) lead the team with two goals each. Carter has 10 shots, six of which have landed on net.
- Freshman Megan Langlois (Methuen, Mass.) has made three starts as a rookie, while appearing in four games. She has a 1.62 goals-against-average with a 2-1 record.
Last Season/Inside the Series vs. LIU Post:
- The two teams met last September, with the Pioneers coming out victorious, 3-0.
- The Warriors have an 8-3-0 overall record against LIU Post, with the last victory coming at home on Sept. 9, 2015 for a 3-2 win. Juniors McKenna Moore (Seattle, Wash.), Taylor Cogliano (Bellingham, Mass), and Gigi Guenther (Webster, Mass.) all registered a point during the win.
The Pioneers
- The Pioneers enter the weekend ranked No. 7 by the United Soccer Coaches' poll a 4-0 record. They have outscored their opponents 17-1, including three shutouts.
- Andrea Huntzinger leads LIU Post with four goals, while Erin O'Connor has three goals and two assists. Hillevi Eklow has a 0.25 goals-against-average and a .938 save percentage.
