NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program returns to action on Saturday after a six-day layoff when the Warriors travel to Franklin Pierce University for a 2 p.m. match in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both squads
Last Time Out:
- Merrimack won one of four matches last week at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Franklin Pierce University
- For the second time in as many weeks, the Warriors bested Chestnut Hill University. The contest went the distance, with the Navy and Gold holding on for the 3-2 victory
- Senior Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio) posted a career-best 20 kills with only five errors on 48 total attacks for a .313 hitting percentage. Two other Warriors posted double-digit kills in sophomore Catherine Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) and junior Katelynn Marr (Franklin, Mass.)
- Defensively, five Warriors registered at least 10 digs led by 28 from senior libero Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.). Marr set a career high with 16 digs while notching her first-ever double-double. McCarroll also doubled up with 15 while junior Amanda Cain (Melrose, Mass.) and sophomore Rosie Sperduto (Brentwood, Tenn.) each posted 11
'Mack Facts:
- For her efforts over the weekend, Sperduto was named to the Wildcat Invite All-Tournament Team. In addition to her 49-assist 11-dig effort on Friday, the second-year setter finished the weekend with 99 assists and 25 digs
- Merrimack won its first five-set match over the weekend. In 2016, Merrimack won two of three matches that went the distance
- Through eight matches, McCarroll paces the team with 73 kills. Sperduto's 187 helpers and Nye's 105 digs both lead the squad
Inside the Series:
- Since the 2004-05 campaign, Merrimack and Franklin Pierce have had a tightly contested series, with the Warriors winning 11 of the 21 matches played
- Over the last four years, the Ravens have bettered the Navy and Gold on three of four occasions
- McCarroll had a strong match against the Ravens last year, recording 10 kills on 19 attacks for a .421 hitting percentage
