Women’s Volleyball Starts Four-Match Run with Home Opener vs. Saint Anselm Thursday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program will play four matches over a span of three days beginning on Thursday evening at Hammel Court when the Warriors host Saint Anslem College in their home opener at 7 p.m. Merrimack will then host its first Northeast-10 Conference home match on Friday afternoon at 4 p.m. against Stonehill before hitting the road for a tri-match on Saturday at Nyack College.

  • Merrimack suffered a 3-1 loss at Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in its NE10 opener
  • Senior Mary Kate McCarroll (Harrison, Ohio) posted a team-best 12 kills on 33 attack to lead the offense, while sophomore Catherine Flaherty (North Andover, Mass.) added 11 kills of her own with only four errors
  • Sophomore setter Rosie Sperduto (Brentwood, Tenn.) recorded another strong effort with 35 assists, the fourth time through nine matches this year that the first-year distributor notched at least 35
  • Senior libero Christina Nye (Plaistow, N.H.) led Merrimack's defensive efforts with 15 digs over the four-set contest

  • Merrimack scored 31 poitns in its second-set victory against the Ravens, the most for the program in two years
  • McCarroll leads the program with 85 kills and 21 service aces, totaling a program-best 3.61 points per set
  • Sperduto's assist total has eclipsed the 200 mark through 28 sets (7.93/set). Defensively, Nye has accumulated 120 digs for an average of nearly four per frame while junior Sofia Basauri (Beaverton, Ore.) paces the group with 0.55 blocks per frame
Series Histories:
  • After Merrimack enjoyed a five-match winning streak over Saint Anselm, the Hawks have won the last three dating back to 2015 including a pair of 3-1 wins in 2016
  • The Navy and Gold have won three of its last four against Stonehill including a 3-2 NE10 win in Easton last season. Flaherty posted one of the top individual matches of the season with 25 kills on 45 attacks with only one error for a .533 hitting percentage
  • Merrimack will get a rematch against Holy Family after facing the Tigers at the Wildcat Invite two weeks ago. Saturday will be the fourth all-time meeting between the programs
  • Merrimack and Nyack will meet for the second time on Saturday, with the only prior occurrence happening during the 2013 season
