GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – After picking up two quick wins to start the year, the Merrimack College women's soccer team will hit the road to begin Northeast-10 Conference action, as the Warriors take on No. 15 Adelphi University on Saturday at Motamed Field for a 3 p.m. start.
Last Time Out
- The Warriors combined for seven goals at the Molloy Labor Day Weekend Tournament, cruising to a 4-0 win against Dominican (N.Y.) on Friday, before beating host Molloy, 3-1, on Sunday.
- Senior Cassie Giza (Orange, Conn.) scored twice against the Chargers, while junior Gigi Guenther (Webster, Mass.) and Izzy McDonnell (Fall River, Mass.) also tallied. Freshman Megan Langlois (Methuen, Mass.) earned her first-career shutout in her first start as well.
- Senior Victoria Carter (Smithfield, R.I.) had a pair of goals against Molloy, while junior Taylor Cogliano (Bellingham, Mass.) picked up the third goal of the contest.
Last Season vs. Adelphi:
- The Panthers were ranked 12th last season when the Warrior's hosted Adelphi on Sept. 28, 2016, with the visitors winning 7-1. Senior Jorgi Adee (Whitinsville, Mass.) scored the lone goal for Merrimack. Sophomore Erin Fulton (Farmington, Conn.) and senior Molly Meehan (Fairfield, Conn.) combined for 10 saves in the contest, with Meehan stopping nine.
The Panthers
- No. 15 Adelphi won its season-opener against Mercy College on Thursday night by a score of 2-0. Taylor Sipos and Jeanine Nunez provided the offense for the Panthers, while Isabel Sandstrom had three saves in the contest.
- The Panthers entered the season ranked 12th in the United Soccer Coaches' poll and picked to win the NE10.
