BOSTON – The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team fell on the road to Boston University on Saturday night, 3-1, as the Terriers swept the second leg of the two schools' home-and-home series at Agganis Arena.

The Basics
Score: Boston U. 3, Merrimack 1
Records: Merrimack (7-13-4, 4-9-2 HEA) | #RV/-- Boston U. (11-11-2, 9-7-2 HEA)
Location: North Andover, Mass. | Lawler Rink
Game Duration: 2:22

Rapid Recap
  • A penalty-filled first period saw both sides combine for five power play opportunities, but it was BU that would light the lamp first at the 12:28 mark of the frame. That would be the only goal of the stanza, as both sides totaled eight shots on net.
  • Merrimack had an early power play toward the start of the second but could not convert; shortly after, BU doubled its lead, and that score went unchanged for nearly the remainder of the period before junior Ludvig Larsson brought the Warriors to within one while the teams were skating 4-on-4 late in the second.
  • The Warriors had a carry-over power play toward the start of the third and then another man advantage shortly after but came up empty, keeping the deficit at one. BU would get a key insurance goal halfway through the stanza, and that would stand as the final margin of defeat.
Scoring Summaries
  • Goal #1 (BU, 0-1): BU's Brady Tkachuk gave the Terriers the lead at 12:28 of the first with the Terriers on the power play. Jordan Greenway brought the puck into the zone, got around a defender at the right wing boards and found Tkachuk at the glove side post, and the latter squeezed it through the pads Merrimack netminder Drew Vogler for the opening marker.
  • Goal #2 (BU, 0-2): Bobo Carpenter doubled the BU lead 3:58 into the second with his team-leading 12th goal of the year. Shortly after a Merrimack power play expired, Ty Amonte poked the puck over the Merrimack blue line to create an odd-man rush. Shane Bowers came in 3-on-1 through the left circle and fed Carpenter at the back post.
  • Goal #3 (MC, 1-2): Larsson got the visitors on the board with just 1:26 left in the middle frame, netting his eighth of the year to move into a tie for the team lead. Sophomore Johnathan Kovacevic forced the puck to classmate Cole McBride in the defensive zone to create an odd-man rush with Larsson, who buried the return feed at the back post to make it 2-1.
  • Goal #4 (BU, 1-3): Carpenter netted his second of the game with the Terriers on the power play midway through the third to restore the hosts' multi-goal lead. He received a feed from Greenway and beat Vogler glove side from the slot near the right hash.
