NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball program returns to Hammel Court on Wednesday night to host the Assumption College Greyhounds at 5:30 p.m. in the Warriors' second trip through the Northeast Division. The Navy and Gold will look for a season sweep of Assumption after a 53-50 win in Worcester earlier this season.
Student Giveaway:
- The first 100 students at Wednesday's game will receive a three-point foam finger courtesy of the Athletics Department, the second of four giveaways this semester! Giveaways will only be available while supplies last, and each student will receive one giveaway per Mack Card
Last Time Out:
- Merrimack exploded for 39 points in the second half, including a 20-3 advantage in the third quarter that allowed the Warriors to dispatch Saint Rose, 57-34
- Sophomore Denia Davis-Stewart led the charge, totaling eight points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks. The second-year center tied her career high in rejections, highlighting a defense effort that held an opponent to less than 35 points for the second time this season. The program hadn't allowed fewer than 35 points in a season in 14 years prior to this season
- The Navy and Gold owned a 50-34 edge on the glass, which included a career-high 12 caroms for freshman Mayson Kimball. The disparity resulted in a 38-10 advantage in points in the paint for the Warriors
'Mack Facts:
- Record Watch: Junior Lindsay Werner boasts 54 three-pointers this season, needing nine more to break Merrimack's single-season record for three-point field goals, set by Christina Siragua in the 2002-03 season. The shooting guard is two away for setting a new career best
- Davis-Stewart rose into second place in the NE10 in blocks (46) after Saturday's game. She's now tied for 25th nationwide in total blocks despite playing the fewest games of anyone in the top-25. The next second-fewest appearances in that group is 17 games played
- Junior Karlee Alves (Ellington, Conn.) has set career highs this season in assists (123), points (104), rebounds (76) and steals (58). Alves leads the conference in total assists and total steals, ranking eighth and 18th nationwide, respectively
- The Warriors hold a three-game lead for fifth place in the Northeast Division. The top-five finishers advance to the NE10 Championship. With a win, the Warriors will guarantee being within one game of fourth-place Saint Anselm entering Saturday's showdown in Manchester
The Greyhounds:
- After starting its cross-divisional schedule with a 4-1 record including four straight wins, Assumption dropped its last three games against the Southwest to enter Wednesday on a losing skid
- The Greyhounds have struggled offensively, scoring just 56.8 points per game which is the second-fewest in the conference. Merrimack's defense allows just 57.3 points per outing, the third-best scoring defense in the league
- Junior Morgan O'Donnell leads the way with 12.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per contest, shooting a team-best 46.3 percent from the field
The Series:
- Freshman Alyssa Casey scored four points in the final 39 seconds, including the game-winning field goal, to lead the Warriors to a three-point win back in November. Casey finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds
- The win came in Merrimack's divisional opener, and was the program's third win in their last four tries at Assumption
- Assumption now owns a 40-24 advantage in the all-time series. The Warriors will aim for their first home win over Assumption since the 2009-10 season
