NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team will look to improve upon a strong start to their 2018 NE10 campaign with two key games against Assumption and Southern Connecticut. The Greyhounds arrive on campus for a 6 p.m. contest on Friday night while the Owls will roll into Hammel Court on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out:
- In their last outing, the Warriors defeated Saint Michael's in a five-set thriller. Merrimack was able to erase a 2-1 deficit, and win the match, 3-2.
- Merrimack claimed a victory in the first set after finishing it off with a 9-2 run. The Warriors' offense was very efficient in the opening set, proven by a .312 hitting percentage.
- After dropping the next two sets, Merrimack dominated the fourth set, holding Saint Michael's to a -.082 hitting percentage.
- The Warriors pulled away in the final set, ending the match on a 7-1 run. Junior Catherine Flaherty led the way for Merrimack offensively, recording the game-winning kill and ending the night with a total of 14 kills. Flaherty also added a season-high 17 digs for the Warriors.
- Senior Katelynn Marr added a double-double for the Merrimack, finishing with 11 digs and 11 kills. Junior Sydney Buran facilitated the offense for the Warriors, distributing 35 assists throughout the match. Senior Amanda Cain led the defensive effort for Merrimack, recording a team high 19 digs.
Mack Facts:
- Flaherty has been the top contributor offensively for the Warriors, averaging 2.33 kills per set this season.
- Leading the defense for Merrimack has been Amanda Cain, a senior libero. Cain is averaging 3.67 digs per set which is good for ninth in the NE10.
- Freshman Sophie Meyers has led the Warriors in blocking this season, totaling 38 total blocks and averaging .62 blocks per set.
- Sydney Buran has been a leader on the court from the setting position, averaging 5.45 assists per set.
Inside the Series:
- In their most recent matchup with Assumption, the Warriors lost a close five-set match. With two wins against the Greyhounds in 2016, Merrimack is 2-1 against Assumption in their last three games. In 2016, the Warriors defeated Assumption, 3-1, on two occasions.
- The last time they faced Southern Connecticut, the Warriors lost in three sets. Merrimack's last win against the Owls came in 2015, where they produced a 3-1 victory.
