NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's soccer team looks to stay within the top of the Northeast 10 Conference this Saturday, October 13, as they take on Adelphi on the turf of Martone-Mejail Field.

Last Time Out:
  • The 17th minute was the first real scoring chance for either side. A long throw-in for the Hawks nearly paid off, as a shot through the scrum inside the 18-yard box snuck through, forcing senior Tyler Packett to make a great diving save to his right to prevent the early score.
  • Merrimack nearly broke the scoring plain in the 40th minute. A deep ball in was one-timed by freshman Tola Showunmi, but his shot was just past the left post.
  • Right at the end of the half, Merrimack had another near opportunity to score. With the final seconds counting down, the Hawks' defense broke down, allowing for sophomore Filippo Begliardi Ghidini to have a good look; at the last second, a Saint Anselm defender knocked him off the ball and forced his shot to go wide.
  • The Warriors pressured through the second half, and nearly scored on a corner; Mirko Nufi rose up in the 60th minute, but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • In the 70th, Merrimack threatened once again. After a series of blocked shots, junior Aasmund Joedahl one-timed a shot outside the 18 that curled just over the crossbar.
  • Finally, in the 77th minute, the Warriors broke the stalemate. Senior Paul Magazzu made a move to separate himself from a defender inside the 18, and fired a laser that beat the keeper over the top.
Mack Facts:
  • The Warriors have produced six shutout victories through the midway point of the season.
  • Each of the Warriors' last seven goals have been scored in the second half.
  • Sophomore Filippo Begliardi Ghidini leads the Warriors with five goals and seven total points.
Inside the Series:
  • The Warriors are 2-3-1 against the Panthers, dating back to 2013.
  • Last year, Merrimack took down then- #2 Adelphi, 2-1, on the road.
Scouting Adelphi:
  • Adelphi comes into the match on a six game win streak, including 5 straight Northeast 10 Conference victories.
