Records: Merrimack (7-6-1) | Southern Connecticut (8-7-0)
Location: Martone-Mejail Field | North Andover, Mass.

How It Happened
  • Sophomore keeper Megan Langlois and the Warriors were tested in the first five minutes. After a cross inside the six-yard box pulled Langlois off her line, Johanna Wahlen missed an empty netter that could have given the Owls the early lead.
  • Senior Tori Daigle nearly started the goal scoring in the 17th minute. A beautiful through ball left her alone behind the last defender, but a great save by freshman Abigail Allen kept the game level.
  • Merrimack led the Owls in shots, 10-6, but the halftime whistle blew with a 0-0 tie.
  • In the 55th minute, the Owls nearly broke level. A fantastic run through the back line from sophomore Meaghan Kelley was called back for offside, as the flag went up as she was finishing a shot into the back of the net.
  • Merrimack got the first goal of the game in the 63rd minute. Senior Gigi Guenther chested down a ball and fed through to senior Tori Daigle who was just outside the 18; with one touch, she was able to slide in between the ball and the Owl keeper, tucking a shot in off the right post.
  • In the 84th, they nearly doubled it. A point-blank opportunity from Daigle was broken up nicely, as Allen came off her line to make the save.
Inside The Numbers
  • The Owls haven't beaten Merrimack at home since 2002.
  • Daigle's goal put her at seven points in the last two games.
