Women’s Tennis Secures NE10 Championship's No. 2 Seed with 4-0 Win at Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Moving the match indoors midway through due to rain, the Merrimack College women's tennis program and Saint Anselm Hawks only played four singles matches up in Manchester, N.H., but the Warriors won them all to claim a 4-0 Northeast-10 Conference win. The victory locked the Warriors into the second seed in next week's NE10 Championship, and a bye to the NE10 Semifinals, which will take play on Friday, Oct. 26.

NE10 Postseason Outlook
The top-six programs in the NE10 standings at the end of the season will advance to the NE10 Championship. The opening round of the tournament is set for Wednesday, Oct. 24, with seeds No. 3-4 hosting No. 5-6. Merrimack will host the NE10 Semfinals on Friday, Oct. 26, and will either the third or sixth seed. The finals are scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 28.

Rapid Recap
  • Second through fifth singles were the only contests played on Wednesday, with all four ending in sweeps. At least one set in each match finished in a 6-0 shutout, as well
  • Freshman Rosemary Campanella did not lose a game at third singles (6-0, 6-0). Her classmate, Kristina Calistro, suffered just one defeat in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at second singles
  • Freshman Hope Salts played up to the fourth flight against the Hawks, and jumped on to a one-set lead (6-0). She finished off her opponent, 6-3, in the second frame to move the Warriors to one point of the match
  • Junior Mia Briggs clinched the win for the Warriors. Despite having her contest delayed after the match was moved indoors, Briggs won in straight frames, 6-0 and 6-2, to secure the Warriors' second-place finish in the NE10
Up Next
The Warriors clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's conference tournament, and will await their opponent on Friday, Oct. 26, when the Warriors host a NE10 Semifinal match. The official match time will be announced later this week.
