NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program hung around with visiting Adelphi University – one of the top programs in the Northeast-10 Conference and East Region – but the visitors prevailed, 25-20, in the opening set before winning Friday's match in three frames at Hammel Court. The Warriors will play in their home finale on Saturday afternoon, honoring seniors Sofia Basauri, Amanda Cain and Katelynn Marr on Senior Day.

Set Breakdown
  • Facing an early 10-5 disadvantage, Merrimack rallied via a 7-1 run to take a 12-11 lead in the frame. Junior Catherine Flaherty, Marr and Cain all recorded points during the run. From there, the teams traded the next 10 points, leaving the Warriors with a 17-16 edge in the set. The Panthers gained momentum from there, however, winning the next four points and nine of the final 12 to win, 25-20
  • Similar to the first set, another 10-5 lead for the visitors led to another Merrimack run. The Warriors recorded four straight points, bookended by kills for Flaherty to make it a one-point margin. The Panthers distanced themselves from there, building a 19-11 lead only to see the hosts win the next two points via a kill from freshman Brooke Leestma and an ace for Basauri. Adelphi ended the frame on a 6-1 run, however, to move within a set of the match
  • The Panthers won eight of the first 11 points of the final set to build a lead. With the Warriors hanging around at 15-9, Adelphi pulled away with a match-ending 10-3 run to end the contest
Top Performers
  • Merrimack ended the day with three players posting 10-plus dig performances. Cain led the effort from her libero position with a team-high 14, while Leestma tied her career high with 12. Flaherty added 11 of her own
  • The North Andover, Mass. native led the program's offensive effort with eight kills, falling two shy of a double-double
  • Freshman Megan Rumenapp served as the Warriors' primary setter, totaling 17 assists for her second highest output of the year
Notes and Notables
  • The hosts totaled more digs than their opposition, finishing with 47 compared to 46 for the Panthers
  • Adelphi hit efficiently, posting a .233 hitting percentage while Amalia Saleh and McKenna Clawson combined for 20 kills on 56 attacks
  • Adelphi also controlled the middle, winning the blocking battle by 13 (15-2)
