LEWISTON, Maine – The Merrimack College women's tennis program suffered a 5-2 defeat on Friday afternoon in a non-conference game at the Wallach Tennis Center on the campus of Bates University.

Rapid Recap
  • Bates won first and second doubles to win the doubles point. At the third flight, the Merrimack duo of senior Lauren Persson and freshman Hope Salts won in 8-4 fashion over Bates' third pairing
  • Merrimack won at third and fifth singles to account for its two points on the day. Freshman Rosemary Campanella triumphed in straight sets, 6-4 and 6-0, to win at No. 3. Junior Mia Briggs took the courts at No. 5 and also swept via set wins of 6-0 and 6-4
  • Campanella continued to put forth an impressive singles season, winning her seventh straight dual match and 10th overall in 11 contests. Her lone defeat came against Division I competition
  • For Salts and Persson, it marked the duo's first doubles match together. It marked Merrimack's 14th different pairing to play together this fall
Up Next
Merrimack faces Le Moyne on Sunday in a crucial Northeast-10 Conference match. Pending the Dolphins' match Saturday at Southern New Hampshire, the two programs could enter Sunday tied for second in the conference standings with just two weeks left in the regular season.
