Women’s Basketball to Host Assumption for First Northeast Divisional Game Wednesday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team returns to action hosting Assumption College for its first Northeast-10 Conference contest on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. from Hammel Court. The squad will be coming into play winning their first two games of the season, both by 30-plus points. The Greyhounds of Assumption come into divisional play at an even 1-1.

Five Things to Know:
  • Senior captain Lindsay Werner led the Warriors' offense on Friday night scoring 28 points in the win, with 22 of those points coming in the first half. Werner scored again with ease on Saturday, recording 21 points in 19 minutes. In the short two-game stretch, Werner leads the NE10 in points per game.
  • Senior captain Karlee Alves set a new school record for assists in a game on Friday night (15), breaking the previous record of 14 set by Keri Guertin in 1995. Alves nearly recorded a triple-double on Saturday night posting 13 points,11 assists, and nine steals. Alves currently leads the country in assists (26), assists per game (13.0), and steals (15).
  • Sophomore Alyssa Casey nearly broke the school record for points scored in a game (36), on Saturday night, as she recorded 31 points in 24 minutes, leading the Warriors to their second 90-point victory. She ranks second in the NE10 in points per game (24.0) on the young season.
  • Junior forward Denia Davis-Stewart leads the team in blocks (11), the only player to record a block in a game so far.
  • The Warriors won the weekend's two games by a combined 61 points, averaging 93.5 points per game while only allowing 63.0 points per game.
Series History:
  • Assumption enters Wednesday's contest with a 1-1 record after competing in the Roberts Wesleyan Tip-Off Tournament this past weekend.
  • Merrimack holds an all-time record of 4-9 against Assumption since 2010, defeating the Greyhounds in both games last season by a combined seven points.

Up Next:
The Warriors will have their first road game of the season on Friday, Nov. 16, as they travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. to battle Dominican College in another non-conference matchup. The game is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Hennessy Center on Friday evening. Merrimack will then return to the Hennessy Center on Saturday to face Felician, its second game of the Regina Rivera Tournament.
