NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey program will skate against its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season, taking on #10 Providence this Friday and Saturday, November 16 and 17. The second consecutive away-and-home matchup against a Hockey East opponent will see the Warriors take Providence on the road Friday, November 16, with a 7 p.m. puck drop; Saturday's contest inside Lawler Rink is set for 4 p.m.
Five Things to Know:
- The Warriors have been in the national ranking talk for the last two weeks. In both USA Today and USCHO.com weekly ranking, the Warriors have been receiving votes; a strong showing this weekend could mean the team could break the top 10 for the first time in program history.
- The Warriors currently rank second in Hockey East standings (13pts) trailing only Northeastern (19pts), a team that has won nine games in a row.
- Senior Katelyn Rae leads the Warriors in scoring with 14 points on 10 goals and four assists; she also ranks third in Hockey East play with 1.25 points per game.
- Senior Goaltender Samantha Ridgewell ranks third in Hockey East in goals allowed (12) with a 1.02 goals against average. She has totaled three shutouts on the season, which is a career high in shutouts for a single season; the three shutouts also put her in a tie for second in the nation.
- Merrimack is tied for 2nd in the nation in power play goals (11) and is fifth in the nation in scoring margin (2.00). Their .833 winning percentage is good for fifth best in the country.
