NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball program will travel to Stonehill looking to earn their first win in conference play this season on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. from Merkert Gym (Easton, Mass.). The Warriors enter their contest against the Skyhawks with an overall record of 4-2, with their only two losses coming by a combined six points.
Five Things to Know:
- Senior captain Lindsay Werner ranks fourth in the conference and leads Merrimack with 19.5 points per game. Werner has scored 20 points or more in three of Merrimack's first six games this year, including a 28-point game in the season opener against Georgian Court.
- Fellow senior captain Karlee Alves paces the NE10 with 8.5 assists per game, which ranks second in the country. Earlier this year, the senior guard set the program single-game record, recording 15 assists against Georgian Court. Alves leads the nation in total assists (51), total steals (31), and steals per game (5.17).
- Merrimack's defense is led by Denia Davis-Stewart who ranks third in the country in blocks per game (4.83), and tied for first in total blocks (29). The junior ranks first in the conference in both these categories.
- Merrimack is a perfect 4-0 in non-conference play to start the season, yet are still searching for their first win against NE10 opponents. In their first two conference games, the Warriors lost to Assumption in overtime, and were later defeated by SNHU
- As a team, the Warriors rank third in the NE10 in points per game with 79.0. The Warriors rank second in the conference in steals (11.7), and first in blocks (6.0). Merrimack ranks tied for second in the nation in total team blocks.
Series History:
- Stonehill currently sits in third place in the Northeast Division of the NE10, while the Warriors claim seventh place in the division.
- The Skyhawks earned victories in both matchups with the Warriors last season, however, Merrimack won both games in the series in the 2016-17 season.
- Stonehill own an all-time record of 68-13 against the Warriors.
