Women’s Ice Hockey Set for Home-and-Home against New Hampshire this Weekend

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team will head to the Whittemore Center Friday night for the first of two games against the University of New Hampshire. The Warriors are looking to get back on track in Hockey East play, losing both games in its last home-and-home series against #10 Providence.
 
With 13 points, Merrimack sits comfortably in fourth place in Hockey East standings at the midway point of the 2018-2019 season; Providence is a point ahead in third, Boston College in second with 18, and Northeastern commanding the poll with 24. The Warriors have four games left before the holiday break; this coming weekend against the Wildcats, and will finish it is series against Boston College with a home-and-home December 7-8.
Five Things to Know:
  • Junior Lea-Kristine Demers made her first start of the season it the team's last game against Quinnipiac, and posted her first career shutout as well as making a season-high 30 saves.
  • In the win over Quinnipiac, freshman Gabby Jones tallied her fourth goal of the season; each of her goals have come over the last four games.
  • The Warriors are 2-7 all-time against the Wildcats, taking the first game and most recent game from UNH.
  • Merrimack received two votes in this past weeks USCHO.com National Rankings and three votes in USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Rankings, putting them just outside the top 10.
  • The Warriors rank ninth in the country in goals scored, 10th in assists, tied in power-play goals, and third in power-play percentage.
