The Class of 2018-19 as a group has been part of a number of milestones since they arrived on campus. They have wins over all but one of the 10 other NE10 football teams over their tenure with signature victories against a few of the top teams in the league, including Bentley, LIU Post, New Haven and Southern Connecticut. Off the field, they have continued the program's rich tradition of connecting with the surrounding community through various initiatives, such as Lawrence Literacy Nights, Special Olympics Boston, Lazarus House and many others. They also have helped the program win the last two Athletics Community Service Awards.
Five Things to Know
- A win on Saturday would assure Merrimack finishes the season at .500 overall, something it has done in 13 other seasons. A fifth win in conference play would mark the 12th time the Warriors have won five-plus games in the Northeast-10 Conference.
- Merrimack dropped a hard-fought, back-and-forth battle at Pace last Saturday. The Warriors rallied from a six-point halftime deficit with two touchdowns and a field goal, but the Setters went ahead late in the fourth quarter and denied Merrimack's comeback attempt in the closing minutes. Senior Cody Demers and junior Marquis Spence caught touchdown passes from sophomore Cam Ward, while redshirt freshman Jamari Venter rushed for a career-high 113 yards on 21 carries, averaging nearly 5-1/2 yards per play. Sophomore Caleb Holden recorded his team-leading fourth interception of the season in that game to move within two picks of the league lead.
- Merrimack and Southern Connecticut have played a very even all-time ledger, with Warriors just behind at 10-11. Merrimack's last win was on the road (21-14) in 2015, which was part of a three-game winning streak against the Owls. The Warriors will be looking for their first home win over SCSU since 2014 (35-7).
- SCSU comes into Saturday also looking to finish .500 overall but has lost three of its last four games, two of which have come in overtime. The Owls dropped a 24-13 game last week at home against league leader LIU Post following an overtime loss against Pace (14-7). Its last win was at home against AIC (48-21) on Oct. 20, which followed a a 26-20 overtime loss at Assumption.
