Five Things To Know
- Merrimack finished the first half of the season with four wins and played eight one-goal games during that stretch, among the most by any team in the country.
- The Warriors' last win was a 1-0 shutout victory at Bemidji State on Nov. 10, as the team is mired in a season-long six-game winless stretch (0-5-1), its longest this year.
- Four of Merrimack's top-five scorers are juniors, headlined by Tyler Irvine's 12 points (5g, 7a), which are a new career-high. Junior defenseman Johnathan Kovacevic ranks second on the team in overall scoring and is the most productive blueliner with 10 points (3g, 7a). Freshman Chase Gresock comes in at third overall with nine points (3g, 6a) on the season, while the next three players on the scoresheet are all juniors as well: Sami Tavernier (2g, 5a), Patrick Kramer (4g, 2a) and Logan Coomes (1g, 5a).
- Merrimack's first two opponents of the second half, Denver and Colorado College, both will be making their first-ever trips to Lawler Rink. Merrimack shocked Denver on the road last December when the Pioneers were defending national champions, but the Tigers held off the Warriors in a tight game the following night in Colorado Springs.
- Merrimack's power play unit has scored at least one power play goal in nine out of 17 contests, including four games with two power play goals.
