NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's ice hockey team will close out the 2018 calendar year with two games against its only ECAC opponent of the season, taking on the #6 Princeton Tigers before jumping into the New Year. Both games will be played at Hobey Baker Rink in Princeton, New Jersey, with puck drop for each game set for 3 p.m.
The Warriors are coming off its biggest win of the season, upending #9 Boston College at home with a 1-0 shutout victory; senior
Paige Sorensen tallied her first goal of the season, teaming up with a 51-save performance from senior
Samantha Ridgewell to secure its first-ever win against Boston College. The team has been off since wrapping up its three-game series against the Eagles, last playing December 8.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack broke a three-game losing streak with its win over Boston College, producing its fourth shutout victory of the season.
- Princeton has been in the national rankings for much of the season; since losing its first two against #1 Wisconsin, the Tigers haven't lost a game and is five points clear of first place in the ECAC.
- The Warriors will be playing for the first time in program history with NWHL draftees; seniors Katelyn Rae, Dominique Kremer, and Paige Voight were the first members of the Merrimack women's hockey program to be drafted in this year's NWHL draft.
- The two teams met up twice last year, with the Warriors taking both contests at home.
- These are the last two games outside Hockey East competitions; the Warriors will travel to Vermont on January 11th before hosting Maine January 18th.
