Baseball Ends Myrtle Beach Trip on High Note, Knocks Off Mercy College Sunday, 15-4

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.  – Behind a strong performance on the mound from junior Daniel Amidon in his first career start, the Merrimack College baseball team ended their five-game trip to the Northeast Challenge with a 15-4 victory over Mercy College on Sunday morning. The Warriors return home with a two-game winning streak, owning victories over Dominican College and the Mavericks.

Rapid Recap
  • Merrimack took advantage of a pair of Mercy errors in the first inning to plate five runs. Junior Matthew Ronai collected the big hit, a two-run double that plated seniors Matt Nicholson and Mike Hoalcraft
  • With a 5-2 lead entering the bottom of the fourth, sophomore Joey Porricelli drove in graduate student Paul Buckley with a double to make it a 6-2 game. Sophomore Thomas Joyce followed with a two-run single, and Hoalcraft cranked his first home of the season to increase the Warriors' lead to 10-2, blowing the game open
  • Amidon finished his outing after five innings, totaling a career-high six strikeouts and allowing just two earned runs
  • The Warriors tacked on five more runs in the later stages of the game. Freshman Timmy Kalantzakos, junior Cam Monagle and senior Garrett Hudson all came out of the bullpen to throw innings of relief to close the contest

  • Amidon picked up his first career win in his first career start, picking up a career-high six strikeouts in five innings of work
  • Offensively, seven Warriors posted multi-hit efforts led by a three-hit, five-RBI performance from Hoalcraft. The senior set a new career high for RBI with the performance
