Women’s Basketball Welcomes Franklin Pierce to Hammel Court Thursday

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball program will look to complete their second divisional sweep of the season on Thursday when the Warriors face Franklin Pierce in Northeast-10 Conference action from Hammel Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Please note this game was rescheduled from its original time of Wednesday (Feb. 7) at 5:30 p.m. due to winter weather.

Gameday Promotions:
  • The first 100 students at Wednesday's game will receive a "MC" Arm Sleeve courtesy of the Athletics Department. One arm sleeve will be given per Mack Card

  • The Warriors will also join many institutions nationwide in celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Any youth girls programs are invited to tomorrow's game free of charge, and participate in a meet-and-greet with the entire Merrimack team after the game. NE10 Postseason Outlook:
The top-five programs in the Northeast Division advance to the NE10 Championship. The fourth-place finisher hosts the No. 5 seed from the Southwest Division, while the fifth-place finisher travels to the No. 4 seed out of the Southwest for the First Round. Seeds No. 1-3 earn byes to the Quarterfinals. Merrimack has five games remaining in the regular season.

  • Freshman Alyssa Casey recorded her fourth 20-point game of the season, classmate Mayson Kimball chipped in 17 of her own, but the Warriors suffered a narrow 59-57 defeat at Saint Anselm on Saturday
  • Sophomore Denia Davis-Stewart totaled eight points, sevens and six blocks while junior Karlee Alves dished out a game-high six assists
  • NE10 Player of the Week Shannon Ryan of Saint Anselm led all players with 21 points and 14 rebounds
'Mack Facts:
  • Merrimack holds a three-game lead for fifth in the Northeast Division and can clinch a postseason berth as early as Saturday
  • Casey earned her eighth NE10 Rookie of the Week on Monday, the most awarded to a freshman by the league since the 2006-07 season. She ranks second on the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and rebounding (6.5 rpg)
  • Junior guard Lindsay Werner enters the week with 55 three-pointers on the season, needing one to set a new career high and ranking second overall in the conference
  • Davis-Stewart became the second NE10 student-athlete to reach 50 blocks on the season on Saturday. In 11 games, Merrimack's starting center has averaged nearly five blocks per contest
The Ravens:
  • Franklin Pierce has endured a difficult season, entering Wednesday on a 13-game losing streak
  • Senior Jemma Thacker leads the team with 13.2 points per game, averaging a team-best 2.0 three-pointers per game
  • The Ravens average 54.8 points per game offensively and allow 69.5 points per contest. Franklin Pierce has lost by double figures in its last five games
The Series:
  • The Warriors won their first meeting in Rindge, 76-44, in the largest margin of victory on the season by the Navy and Gold
  • Casey and Werner each posted 20-point efforts in the season's first meeting. Kimball added 10 points while sophomore Emily Houle hit a pair of three-pointers off the bench
  • Merrimack's victory brought the Warriors within seven games of tying the all-time series

The Warriors return home on Saturday when Merrimack celebrates Alumni Day on Saturday afternoon by hosting Southern New Hampshire at 1 p.m. from Hammel Court.
