DANVERS, Mass. – Despite receiving 7.1 innings of earned-run free work from senior southpaw
PJ Browne, the Merrimack College baseball team suffered a 2-1 defeat on Friday afternoon in a non-conference game against Franklin Pierce University on the campus of Saint John's Preparatory School in Danvers, Mass. The Ravens scored once in the top of the ninth to take the lead for good, winning the first of two of two non-league games this weekend between the Northeast-10 Conference rivals.

- Browne worked three scoreless innings before the Warriors gave their lefty starter a lead. Sophomore Nick Shumski led the bottom of the third off with a double, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly by classmate Thomas Joyce
- Merrimack threatened to go ahead in the fourth, but could not score with runners on the corners and two outs. Franklin Pierce tied the game with a sacrifice fly in the fifth, and nearly broke the deadlock in its next at-bats, but Browne eliminated the threat with a grounder to short that stranded Ravens at first and second
- The Warriors' best chance to take the lead came in the bottom of the eighth, with graduate student Tyler Lyne at third base with two outs. A wild pitch gave Lyne a chance to score, but Franklin Pierce eliminated the center fielder at the plate, keeping the game deadlocked
- A leadoff double in the ninth led to the go-ahead run. Merrimack started the bottom of the ninth with a single, but the runner was erased on a pickoff throw, marking the Warriors' final baserunner of the game
