NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's and ice hockey programs, who have already garnered significant recognition for their in-the-classroom performances over the past academic year, shined again on Friday with the announcement of the 2017-18 American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Krampade All-American Scholars.
Recognizing student-athletes who achieved a 3.6 or better grade point average (GPA) in each semester and played in 40 percent or more of his/her team's games, both sides led all Hockey East schools in total AHCA All-American Scholar selections. The men's program had 14 student-athletes honored – the most among all Division I men's teams. The women's squad, meanwhile, led the conference with 12 honorees. No other team in Hockey East – men or women – had more than eight student-athletes recognized.
They join a list of 501 total student-athletes across NCAA Division I men's and women's ice hockey schools.
Earlier this month, both teams enjoyed similar dominance on Hockey East's All-Academic Teams. The men
led the league with 21 selections and two Top Scholar-Athletes, making it five straight years that they led the conference in all-academic selections. The women, meanwhile,
boasted a league-high 19 selections and four Top Scholar-Athletes, marking the second straight year that the three-year-old program paced the conference in academic excellence.
