NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – With just two days' rest since the thrilling overtime win Saturday afternoon against Post, the No. 7 Merrimack College men's soccer program looks to take their momentum into conference play, taking on Saint Michael's in their first Northeast-10 Conference game of the season Tuesday, September 11, at 7 p.m.
Last Time Out:
- The Warriors entered Saturday's contest against Post University with a 2-0 record, with both wins coming in the Merrimack Kickoff Classic.
- Post, who entered the game with a 1-2 record, lost both games to NE10 opponents; both results were 1-0, and both losses came in the back half of the game.
- The Eagles opened things up with a 1-0 lead in the second half Saturday, scoring the one and only goal the Warriors have allowed all season.
- Sophomore Drew Lovely netted his first of the season to tie the game, when a corner by senior Lars Sund was headed into the bottom of the net.
- Sophomore Filippo Begliardi Ghidini needed just 53 seconds to put away his first game-winner of the season, when a low cross by junior Aasmund Joedahl was touched in for the goal.
Mack Facts:
- Merrimack has six players with at least one goal, and seven total players with at least one point through their opening three games.
- Senior Tyler Packett currently boasts a 0.33 goals-against average, which is good for third-best in the NE10.
- The Warriors have only given up one goal through three contests; the last time a Merrimack team started out giving up a goal or less through their opening three games was 2013.
Inside the Series:
- Last season, the Warriors upended the purple Knights, 3-0.
- Lovely, Joedahl, and Sund all scored in last season's victory.
- Merrimack is 12-5-1 against St. Michael's, dating back to 1998.
Scouting St. Michael's:
- This season, the Purple Knights are 1-2 to start their season, losing to Queens (NY) and Saint Thomas Aquinas (NY), before taking down Saint Anselm in a non-league contest, 3-2.
- Saint Michael's, although losing two of their first three, have only been outscored 7-6 in their first three contests.
- With seven seniors graduating from last year's team, Saint Michael's has a great mix of newcomers and upperclassmen to fill in new rolls.
- The Purple Knights were picked to finish 14th in the 2018 Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches' Poll.
