Bartush’s Multi-Goal Effort Powers #7 Field Hockey Past Franklin Pierce

RINDGE, N.H.  – Senior captain Samantha Bartush recorded her first-career multi-goal effort, establishing a new career high in points (8) in the process to lead the No. 7 Merrimack College field hockey program to a 3-0 victory over Franklin Pierce Tuesday night. The contest marked the Warriors' non-league finale, giving Merrimack a 4-1 record entering Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday.

  • MC (1-0) – Midway through the opening stanza, junior Jessica Palmer found herself around the goalmouth and pounced on a rebound to open the scoring at the 18:33 mark
  • MC (2-0) – Merrimack was awarded a penalty corner with less than 30 seconds to play in the first half. Senior Mary McNeil inserted to Bartush, who ripped a shot that deflected off a Raven and into the net
  • MC (3-0)Delaney Yule – Merrimack's third senior – set up the third rally. Approaching the five-minute mark of the second half, Yule fed Bartush on the rush who finished again through traffic to cap her two-goal effort
Top Performers
  • Entering 2018, Bartush had scored once in three season and set a career best with six points as a sophomore. The Norwalk, Conn. native now boasts her first-ever multi-goal game, a career-high in tallies (3) and a career-best in points (8)
  • Junior Katharina Ohmen kept the Ravens at bay, stopping 10 shots for her career-high tying third shutout of the season. Ohmen posted exactly 10 saves for the third time in five starts, and equaled that amount of shutouts she finished with as a rookie
  • Yule's helper marked her first of the 2018 season, while McNeil now owns a team-leading five
  • Palmer moved into a tie for second on the team with a career-high four markers over five starts
Notes and Notables
  • RECORD WATCH – McNeil's 33rd career assist moved the senior midfielder within four of tying the program record. She also rests within nine points of becoming the seventh player in school history with 100 for their career
  • McNeil moved into sole possession of first in the league in helpers (5), and is tied atop the conference in points (15)
  • Ohmen's numbers continue to shine. The third-year starter leads the NE10 in save percentage (.900), and ranks second league-line in saves (36), goals-against average (0.80) and goals allowed (4)
