How it Happened
  • The first 12 minutes of the game proved to be the most important for the Warriors, as they were able to pepper three shots to start the game.
  • Once the offense got in a rhythm, it wasn't long before the first goal was scored. Sophomore Filippo Begliardi Ghidini was fed a beautiful ball inside the six from freshman Francesco Dondini, and the one-time shot was good for a 1-0 Merrimack lead.
  • From there, the Skyhawk defense solidified. Only three more shots from the Warriors were put on frame in the first half, and Skyhawk keeper Billy Troast was there to put a wall between the pipes.
  • Stonehill's best offensive push came at the start of the second half, where senior Tyler Packett was forced to make a pair of saves to keep his team in the lead.
  • Merrimack had chances in the 70th and 81st minute to add to their lead; a curling shot from freshman Tola Showunmi, and a rocket from Ghidini – both of which rung the post.
  • Three cards were awarded as tension mounted in the final 15 minutes, but neither defense broke down, ending the game with a 1-0 Merrimack victory.
