NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team will play its last road game of the month of January on Tuesday, facing Adelphi University at 5:30 p.m. from the Center of Recreation and Sport in Garden City, N.Y. The contest marks a rematch of last season's NE10 Championship First Round game, which went in favor of the Panthers.
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack led from start to finish against Pace University on Saturday, ending the afternoon with a 62-49 triumph. The Warriors allowed a season low in points, limiting the Setters to under 10 points in two of the four quarters. Junior Denia Davis-Stewart scored a game-high 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting while freshman Kate Mager added 14 points off the bench on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from three-point range
- Saturday's win gave head coach Monique LeBlanc the 99th of her career, moving her within one of the 100-win milestone. LeBlanc is now on the doorstep of joining Debbie Cogan (1986-1999) and Ann McInerney (1999-2005) as the only coaches to reach 100 career wins at Merrimack
- Davis-Stewart's torrid run continued on Saturday. She has scored in double figures in six of her last seven, including three games with at least 19 over the last four. Over her last seven, the junior is averaging 14.4 points and 12.4 rebounds per game. Her blocking numbers continue to pace the NE10 at 3.94 per game, which ranks third in the country
- Senior point guard Karlee Alves contributed five assists and two more steals on Saturday, increasing here NE10 lead to 136 helpers and her thefts total to 55, which ranks second in the league.
- Overall, Merrimack's offense is led by senior Lindsay Werner. The shooting guard rests on 906 career points, and leads the attack with an average of 16.0 points per contest. The sophomore tandem of Alyssa Casey (13.7) and Mayson Kimball (11.3) also average in double figures. Davis-Stewart's offensive surge has seen her scoring average increase to 11.9 per game, ranking third on the team
Series History:
- Including last season's playoff defeat, Merrimack is 7-11 all-time against Adelphi. Last season's postseason contest was the first ever between the Warriors and Panthers
- Davis-Stewart also led the way in last year's game at Adelphi, posting a line of 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks. Werner chipped in 12 points, as well
- The Warriors have won just once on the road against Adelphi, with six of their seven wins in the series coming at home. Merrimack's lone victory in Garden City came during the 1999-00 season
