Game Notes Merrimack

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College men's ice hockey team heads to Boston University for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day matinée matchup with the defending league champions on Monday, with puck drop from Agganis Arena set for 4 p.m. on NESN.

Five Things To Know
  • Merrimack saw its three-game winning streak -- its longest of the season -- come to an end with a 5-0 setback against New Hampshire on Friday night at home.
  • The shutout loss was Merrimack's third of the season and first since Dec. 7 against Providence. Its other shutout loss was against Lake Superior on Oct. 7 at home. On the flip side, Merrimack has also has four shutout victories. Only Providence, Northeastern and UMass Lowell have as many combined shutouts as Merrimack in Hockey East.
  • Including ties, Merrimack has played 10 one-goal games on the season, among the most by any team nationwide. The Warriors are 0-2-1 in overtime this year.
  • Five of Merrimack's top-seven scorers are juniors, headlined by Tyler Irvine's 16 points (5g, 11a), which are a new career-high. Freshman Chase Gresock is up to 15 points (6g, 9a), second most on the team.  The three players on the scoresheet are all juniors as well: Johnathan Kovacevic ranks third on the team in overall scoring and is the most productive blueliner with 12 points (4g, 8a) followed by classmates Patrick Kramer (5g, 4a), Sami Tavernier (2g, 7a) and Logan Coomes (1g, 7a).
  • One of Merrimack's four shutout victories was against BU back in October at home. Four different Warriors scored in that 4-0 victory against the Terriers.
