NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Entering its seventh and final non-conference game of the regular season, the Merrimack College women's basketball program will have a chance to post a perfect 7-0 mark against non-Northeast-10 Conference foes when the Warriors visit the University of Bridgeport on Saturday. Tip-off from Harvey Hubble Gymnasium is scheduled for 5 p.m.
Five Things to Know:
- Junior Denia Davis-Stewart posted her best career performance in Merrimack's last game, registering a career-best 23 points and 20 rebounds to lead Merrimack to a 25-point win at Mercy College. Davis-Stewart's 20-20 game marked the eighth such instance in NCAA Division II in 2018-19, and her 20 boards was the most for a Merrimack player since Kelly Schatzlein '13 in 2013
- The Warriors' six non-conference wins equals the most for the program since 2012-13, and tied the most under head coach Monique LeBlanc. A win will give Merrimack its most regular-season non-conference wins this century and the program's first perfect non-league record in the regular season since the 2004-05 season
- Davis-Stewart's rebounding effort on Wednesday brought her per-game average to 10.0. She's currently averaging a double-double with 11.2 points per game, and is tied for the nation's lead with 55 total blocks. Teammate Karlee Alves also is among the nation's leaders in multiple areas. The starting point guard paces the country in assists per game (8.8) and ranks fifth in steals per game (3.85)
- Offensively, Merrimack's leaders in points per game includes senior Lindsay Werner (16.4) along with sophomores Alyssa Casey (13.5) and Mayson Kimball (12.3). All three players are shooting at least 35 percent from beyond the arc. Werner is nearing a personal milestone, lying 137 points of reaching 1,000 for her career
- LeBlanc is nearing her 100th career win at Merrimack, entering Saturday's contest with 97 career wins. She is aiming to become the third coach in program history to reach the century mark.
