HOOKSETT, N.H. –  Resuming a rivalry that began in Division II, the Merrimack College men's tennis program visited Southern New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon for its final dual match of the fall season. The Warriors owned a 1-0 lead entering doubles play, and claimed victories at first and sixth singles to bring the match even at 3-3, but the Penmen won a three-set match at third singles to claim a 4-3 triumph at the Penmen Stadium Tennis Courts.

  • Each program posted decisive victories at first and second doubles to bring the doubles point down to the third flight. The Warriors' second pairing of sophomores Alec Mackay Rodriguez and Marshall Wood notched a 6-1 win to offset a first-flight defeat. At No. 3, freshman Pedro de Godoy Mancini and sophomore Hassan El Alami won in a tiebreak, 7-5, to post a 7-6 triumph in the match
  • Senior Denis Davydov won in straight sets at first singles, posting the best singles effort of the day for Merrimack. El Alami completed a perfect individual day at No. 6, overcoming a 6-3 loss in the first set to win consecutive 6-3 decisions in the second and third frames. His victory tied the contest at 3-3
  • SNHU won two-set matches at second, fourth and fifth singles. The contest came down to No. 3, where Mackay Rodriguez rallied for a 6-4 win in the second set to force a third. The Penmen's No. 3 option fought back, winning by a 6-2 final to end the match
Up Next
Merrimack's fall schedule concludes this week with the ITA Division I East Region Championships – the team's debut appearance in the DI edition of the tournament. Regional play begins on Thursday in Philadelphia, Pa.
