Women's Volleyball Falls Short to Saint Francis University

North Andover, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team competed against Saint Francis University for the second time this season on Friday night. The Warriors looked to earn their first conference win of the season, but ultimately fell short in three sets to the Red Flash at home. The Warriors look to build off a promising third set where they were just two points away from bringing home the set.

Set Breakdown:
  • The Warriors came out of the gate hot with a big kill from freshman Lily Blodgett to give them the 1-0 lead. The Warriors rallied off two more points after this, giving them an early three-point advantage. The Red Flash battled back and tied the game at seven when senior Catherine Flaherty earned a kill giving the Warriors an 8-7 advantage. After back and forth play for much of the set, the Red Flash held off a late run from Merrimack and took home the set 25-22.
  • Saint Francis came out in the second set with a 3-0 to get things started. Merrimack then rallied off four of the next five points, capped off by a kill from freshman Taylor Sawyer to make it 4-4. The Red Flash quickly took control of the set and brought the score to 19-10. Merrimack was able to get it as close as 19-14 but fell short in the end.
  • The Warriors proved difficult to finish off, playing their best set of the match. After a slow start and being down 4-1, Merrimack rallied and was able to tie the score at nine, after back and forth play, with a kill from sophomore Kara Haase. The Warriors continued to play well and the crowd responded with big roars on points from the Warriors. Merrimack got the score to 23-21 with a kill from Blodgett and was just two points away from taking home the set. The Red Flash responded and took home the set 26-24.
Notes & Notables Up Next:
The Warriors will hit the road next when they go head to head with Hartford on Friday night at 7 p.m. Merrimack will look to build on a promising third set against the Red Flash.
