NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Merrimack returns to action at home, trying to capitalize on a home stretch to start the season, inviting Rensselaer in for a pair of out of conference games. Merrimack is off to a less-than-perfect start, following two tough losses in conference play to Boston College on Sept. 27 and 28 to open their season. Unable to break through in the first game of the year despite a flurry of activity on goal, Merrimack opened the scoring in Saturday's contest on a goal by
Gabby Jones. With a secondary assist,
Rachel Rockwell earned her first point in her Warriors career.
Five Things to Know:
• Sophomore
Gabby Jones scored the first goal for the Warriors on the season in Saturday's game against Boston College for the seventh of Jones' career.
• Merrimack's defense compounded the pressure in their last series, blocking a combined 43 shots across both games.
• Senior goaltender Lea-Kristine Demers has turned aside 59 shots so far this season.
• RPI opened its season at home against Minnesota-Mankato, losing in both games at the Houston Field House 4-0 Friday and 3-0 Saturday.
• These are the first games between these two squads in program history. Against ECAC Hockey opponents, other competitors in RPI's conference, Merrimack is 9-7-4 overall.
In games against ECAC Hockey teams last season, the Warriors earned a 3-1-1 record, including shutouts against Quinnipiac and Union.
