Carlile Lights the Lamp for Men's Hockey in Setback to #13 Northeastern

BOSTON –The Merrimack College men's hockey team gave up a trio of power play goals on the way to a 3-1 setback to #13 Northeastern Saturday night at Matthews Arena.
 
Declan Carlile notched his second goal of the season late in the third period, but the Huskies power play unit, which finished 3-for-8 on the night, was too much in the end.

How It Happened

• The home side generated plenty of momentum in the game's opening ten minutes and was able to capitalize on it. Tyler Madden had a nifty move to generate space along the goal line and flipped a shot past Warrior netminder Jere Huhtamaa for the game's first goal with a dozen minutes left.
• After Merrimack came out to a strong start in the second period, Northeastern found itself on a 5-on-3 advantage midway through the frame. Aidan McDonough was the benefactor of that, as he put one home to double the Husky lead.
• Northeastern capitalized on another power play with just over a minute to go in the second frame when McDonough knocked home his second in a row on a funky carom that eluded Huhtamaa.
• Merrimack pushed back in the game's closing period and was able to find new life thanks to Carlile. With just over five minutes left to play, Ryan Nolan slid a pass to Carlile in the slot, who gathered and fired it home to narrow the deficit to two.

Notes & Numbers

• Tyler Irvine led the Warriors with four shots on goal.
• Carlile is now tied with Zach Uens for the team lead in goal scoring by a defensemen with two.

The Warriors do not return to the ice until Nov. 22 when they travel to Amherst to take on Massachusetts. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m.
