NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball team competed against Long Island University this Saturday for their second straight home game. The Warriors lost to the Sharks in straight sets in their first meeting and looked to avenge that loss Saturday, but the Warriors fell short in three sets to the Sharks at home.

Set Breakdown
- Sophomore Kayla Zinser and senior Catherine Flaherty opened the game strong for the Warriors with two big kills giving Merrimack an early 2-1 lead. After trading points back and forth Flaherty was again able to send home a kill to knot the game at 7. The Sharks were able to build a lead with a 5-1 run to bring the score to 12-8. The Sharks carried the momentum for the rest of the set and won the opening set 25-14.
- Merrimack started the set strong when sophomore Natasha Vallis sent home a big kill to make the score 2-2. The Sharks were able to counter with a 3-0 run, giving them a 5-2 advantage. Freshman Emily Adams gave the Warriors a lift, sending home a kill to bring the score back to 5-6 in favor of the Sharks. Long Island capitalized off the Warriors errors and won 5 straight points to give them an 11-5 advantage. Flaherty played well in the set, and gave the Warriors a boost with an ace, bringing the Warriors within 7 points. The Sharks finished the set strong, taking the set 25-13.
- The Warriors found themselves in an early hole when the Sharks came out with a 5-1 run. Freshman Luna Colozzo gave the Warriors life with a kill bringing Merrimack within three at 5-2. The Warriors battled and kept it close and won two straight points on a service ace from freshman Taelyr Czech. Merrimack tied the game at 15 on a kill from freshman Taylor Sawyer. Ultimately, the Warriors were unable to pull through and lost the set 25-20.
