Women’s Basketball Ends Non-League Slate vs. Vermont

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team comes off of break to play the University of Vermont this Sunday at 3 p.m. from Hammel Court.  The Warriors won last time out against UMass Lowell, 73-50.  Junior Alyssa Casey and senior Denia Davis-Stewart both led the way for Merrimack with 24-point and 14-rebound performances.  Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and can be streamed on the NEC Front Row.

The Warriors enter this weekend sitting atop the NEC standings with six wins over 10 tries. The matchup with the Catamounts marks Merrimack's non-conference finale, as well.

Five Things to Know:
  • Davis-Stewart is having quite the senior season.  She is currently leading the team in points (18.0) rebounds (12.4) and blocks (5.0).  She has also received not one, but two Northeast Conference (NEC) player of the week so far this season.
  • Casey found her groove last time out against UMass Lowell.  Casey scored a season-high 24 points and pulled in a season-high 14 rebounds.  The double-double was her second of the season. Both Casey and Davis-Stewart were named NEC Prime Performers last week
  • Freshman point guard Jayme DeCesare continues to have a stellar first season with the Warriors handling the ball.  She has 41 assists through 10 games and only eight turnovers.  DeCesare also has 15 steals on the season, which ranks her second on the team.
  • Sophomore Kate Mager is shooting a team-best .466 from long range this season.  This percentage also ranks her in the top two in the conference.
  • Vermont is currently 6-6 on the season.  Senior Hanna Crymble currently leads the team averaging 17.3 points per game.
