Women’s Basketball Cruises Past Fisher College 81-42

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – Junior forward Alyssa Casey led the way with a double-double, scoring 15 points and pulling down 12 rebounds in the Merrimack College win over Fisher College Wednesday night.  The double-double by Casey is her first of the season and seventh of her career.  Freshman point guard Jayme DeCesare was the second Warrior to score in double-digits with 11 points.  Force in the middle, senior Denia Davis-Stewart chipped in with nine points and 13 rebounds during the victory.

Rapid Recap
  • Out of the gates Merrimack took immediate control of the game going on a 10-2 run to open things up.  Threes by Casey and DeCesare highlighted the run for the Warriors.  Grad student Courtney Clasen ended the quarter with a layup as time expired to give Merrimack a 18-5 lead heading into the second quarter.
  • The Falcons and Warriors went back and forth for the first four minutes of the quarter.  Just about halfway through Merrimack broke open the lead after a 9-1 run, ending with another Clasen layup that caused Fisher College to call a timeout.  The run put the Warriors up by 20.  
  • Merrimack opened up the third quarter going on a 12-2 run.  Davis-Stewart, Casey, and freshman Kaylee Thomas all scored buckets during the run for the Warriors.  At the end of the quarter Merrimack led by 34 points after great play off the bench by senior Emily Houle who had seven points.
  • In the fourth Merrimack continued for control the ball and the lead going up by as many as 40 points.  The Warriors spread the ball around in the quarter.  Senior Giulia Orlando was one of five different player scored buckets in the frame to eventually give Merrimack a 39 point victory.  
Notes and Numbers
  • Junior Marissa Gattuso had a career-high in blocks with three on the night.
  • Casey pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds during the game.  She currently ranks third on the team in the category.
  • The Warriors continued to knock down shots from the charity stripe going 10-13 on the night.  Merrimack currently ranks in the top five nationally in free throw percentage.
  • The Warriors received 37 points from their bench, which is the second most on the season.
