NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – In the final weekend of the regular season, the Merrimack College women's ice hockey program will wrap up its best finish in program history with a home-and-home series against #3 Northeastern.
With Northeastern playing host Friday night, the program will hold its senior day on Saturday, with the eleven seniors of the inaugural class to be honored after the game's conclusion.
The Warriors are comfortably in fifth place, with two games left in the regular season. Being two points behind Providence, Merrimack needs to win both games to have a shot at hosting a playoff round with the fourth seed in the Hockey East Tournament; additionally, it would also need Providence to lose one game, and either tie or lose its final game of the season.
Five Things to Know:
- Senior Katelyn Rae was both Hockey East Player of the Week and NCAA First Star, after posting six points in last Friday's 7-1 victory over UConn.
- Merrimack dropped its first contest against Northeastern on February 8, 6-3.
- Northeastern has lost just three Hockey East games all season, with its most recent loss coming last weekend against Providence, 5-2.
- Siting six points ahead of UConn, Merrimack cannot finish lower than fifth place in Hockey East standings; it will be the highest seeding in program history.
- Merrimack's last win against Northeastern came on October 28, 2016; seniors Emily Volpe, Felila Manu, and Paige Voight all scored in the 3-2 victory.
