BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The No. 16 Merrimack College women's lacrosse team dropped a hard-fought road decision at No. 7 LIU Post on Saturday by a 7-2 margin.
Sophomores
Catherine Mahanna and
Taylor Darrell scored in the first half to get the Warriors within two, but the Pioneers – who were an NCAA Tournament qualifier a year ago – got the last goal of the half and added two more in the second while keeping the visitors off the board the rest of the way.

How It Happened
- After four scoreless minutes to open the contest, the hosts buried three quick goals in a span of just over two minutes to grab a 3-0 lead.
- Mahanna's first of the year gave the Warriors life with 21:43 left in the opening half, burying a feed from junior Gretchen Krall to make it a two-score contest.
- After LIU Post regained a three-goal cushion, it was Darrell, the first-year Warrior and sophomore transfer who netted her first with the navy and gold to get the visitors within a pair with 7:25 remaining in the half.
- But the Pioneers answered less than a minute later to carry a 5-2 lead into the break.
- In the second half, LIU Post would add two more scores in the 43rd minute and again with 6:21 to play, while the Warriors were kept in check offensively the rest of the way despite putting four shots on net.
Notes & Numbers
- Three different Warriors caused a turnover in Saturday's defensive battle; seniors Amber Feminella and Lauren Trepaney and junior Courtney Capobianco each had three disruptions.
- Trepaney had another double-digit save total on Saturday, turning away 11 shots. She also led all Warriors with eight ground balls.
- Feminella's two draw controls were the most for the visitors.
- The two goals were the fewest in a game for Merrimack since being held to one goal against Adelphi on April 8, 2017.
