HAVERHILL, Mass. – Playing indoors at Cedardale Health & Fitness in Haverhill, Mass. on Sunday, the Merrimack College men's tennis program saw junior
Alex Fedorov clinch the program's first-ever victory over regional power Queens College, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (4-7), 6-2, at third singles. That triumph gave Merrimack its fourth point of the day, with the Warriors eventually prevailing by a 5-2 margin over the East Coast Conference representatives.
Both programs entered Sunday's tilt regionally ranked, with the Knights boasting the No. 2 overall spot in the East Region. Queens (N.Y.) and Merrimack boast the two longest running streaks of appearances in the NCAA Tournament, with the Warriors' 11 consecutive berths to the East Regional ranking as the second longest active run among Northeast-10 Conference, ECC and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference programs.

- Merrimack dominated the doubles portion of the match to take the overall point. The third flight featuring freshmen Alec Mackay Rodriguez and Marshall Wood went in favor of the Warriors, 6-3, leaving Merrimack needing only one more flight to ensure a 1-0 lead. The No. 2 grouping did just that as Fedorov and freshman Jonathan Garcia prevailed by a 6-2 margin. The Warriors also claimed the first flight, 6-3, to complete the doubles sweep
- Fresh off his win at No. 1 doubles, junior Denis Davydov made quick work of Queens' top singles option, 6-1 and 6-2, to increase his winning streak against Division II competition at first singles to eight matches, and maintain his undefeated record (8-0) against DII foes. - Freshman Conrad Koch moved Merrimack within a point of clinching the match via a three-set win at No. 4 (6-4, 3-6, 6-2). Queens answered back once more, claiming at two-set win at sixth singles to keep Merrimack's advantage at one, 3-2
- Fedorov's back-and-forth match gave the Warriors the victory. After seeing both of the opening sets decided in a tiebreak, Fedorov dominated the match-clinching set, 6-2, to ensure a Warriors triumph. Mackay Rodriguez rallied from a first-set defeat at fifth singles, winning a three-set contest himself to give Merrimack its fifth and final point of the day
