Softball Splits with Bentley Wednesday Night

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass.  – The Merrimack College softball program split Wednesday's doubleheader against Bentley, dropping game one by a 3-2 final before exploding for 11 hits in game two, winning 5-1. Senior Melanie DeAlmeida went the distance in game two, earning her second straight victory in complete-game fashion.

Rapid Recap (Game One)
  • Merrimack got things going in the bottom of the first inning. With junior Tiffany Mangiameli on third, a grounder to the left side of the infield from Lucy Colarusso scored the game's first run.
  • Bentley struck back, scoring two in the top of the second. Bases loaded singles from Kaleigh SeraFini and Stacy Korotsky gave the visitors a 2-1 lead.
  • Again in the second, Merrimack was able to find the scoreboard. With Kelly Dovi on second base, senior Kristina Terrazzano dropped a single into right field, scoring the equalizer.
  • Bentley took the lead back in the top of the fifth inning. With runners on the corners, Gabby Casalino ripped a ball through the infield, giving the Falcons a 3-2 lead.
Rapid Recap (Game Two)
  • Merrimack exceeded its hit total in game one in the bottom half of the first inning in game two, Mangiameli and senior Hannah Johnson singled. After a double steal, Abby Amato hit a double to right field, giving the Warriors a 2-0 lead. Colarusso followed suit with an RBI double to right-center field before Bentley got out of the inning.
  • Scoring stopped until the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs, a single by Caitlin McBride scored Mangiameli from third, giving the Warriors a 5-0 advantage.
  • The Falcons got one back in the bottom of the seventh, spoiling DeAlmeida's second-straight shutout win. A grounder on the right side of the infield from Gabby Casalino scored Kaleigh Sanafini from third.
