NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's volleyball program competes in its first tournament in 2019 when the Warriors visit Lafayette College for three matches this weekend in Easton, Pa. Merrimack plays the host Leopards to start the tournament at 7 p.m. tomorrow night. The Warriors return to the Kirby Sports Center on Saturday to take on Siena (10 a.m.) and Delaware State (3 p.m.).
Five Things to Know:
- Merrimack has started the season by winning one of its four matches to date; the Warriors topped Saint Michael's College last Saturday, 3-0, to pick up their first victory of 2019
- Senior Catherine Flaherty and freshman Lily Blodgett have emerged as the team's top two attackers this season. The former leads Merrimack in kills (26), attacks (61) and hitting percentage (.311) while the latter paces the squad in kills per set (2.75)
- Senior setter Rosie Sperduto has dished out a team-high 70 assists through 12 sets, averaging nearly six helpers per frame
- Defensively, freshman libero Taelyr Czech has notched a team-high 39 digs over four matches, average 3.25 per frame. In the blocking department, the rookie duo of Blodgett and Emily Adams have nearly half of the team's 19 block assists on the year
- Merrimack has posted 16 service aces so far this year, led by three each for Blodgett and sophomore Kayla Zinser
