Men’s Soccer Battles Harvard to 3-3 Draw

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior forward Aasmund Joedahl had a game to remember, scoring two goals and dishing one assist for a total of five points in tonight's tie against Harvard University at Jordan Field in Cambridge, Mass.  After the game, the Merrimack College men's soccer team moves to 2-3-1 on the season.

Senior forward Filippo Begliardi Ghidini scored a goal off of a rebound that hit the crossbar to put the Warriors up, 3-2, late in the second half.  With eight seconds to go, Harvard senior Taner Dogan found the back of the net with a header off of a Crimson corner kick.  Both teams failed to get anything going offensively in overtime.

The Summary
  • Harvard's Duncan Southerland started the scoring off with a goal in the seventh minute.  
  • The Crimson added to their lead in the 21st minute with a goal off the foot of Alfred Perez.
  • Joedahl got the Warriors on the board after a beautiful header set up by sophomore Henry Osei
  • Joedahl continued his great first half when he scored his second goal of the season in the 44th minute on a chip shot five yards outside of the box
  • With four minutes to go, Begliardi Ghidini knocked in a rebound that went off the post to put the Warriors up one
  • Harvard's Taner Dogan headed in a corner kick with eight seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

  • Graduate student goalkeeper Lucas Rezende had a season-high 11 saves on the night
  • The Warriors took a season-high 30 shots which included 13 on goal
  • Harvard lead in corners by the count of 5-4
  • Harvard received four yellow cards to Merrimack's one
Up Next
Merrimack starts Northeast Conference (NEC) play on Friday when the Warriors head to Connecticut to play Sacred Heart.  The game will be played on Park Avenue Field at 3 p.m.
