Women’s Ice Hockey Opens Season vs. #8 Boston College

NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Coming off the program's second playoff appearance, the Merrimack College women's ice hockey team opens the 2019-20 season at home against No. 8 Boston College.

The Warriors are ready to start the season with start the year with seven of the first nine games of the season at home. Five of those games come against Hockey East competition. Merrimack looks to match the early season success of last season, when the team earned at least a point in the first five games, going 3-0-2, with wins against Union and Penn State, before kickstarting a six game winning streak from Oct. 20 at UConn through to Nov. 10 against Providence.

Five Things to Know:
  • Merrimack took the team's first-ever win against Boston College in their last meeting on Dec. 8, 2018 at Lawler.
  • Leading the offensive charge will be senior and assistant captain Mikyla Grant-Mentis, who is the fourth highest scorer from 2018-19 returning to Hockey East after scoring 34 points in 35 games.
  • After graduating 11 members of the program's first recruiting class, the Warriors have brought in 10 new faces to fill out the roster, including eight freshmen and two transfers in Rachel Rockwell and Jessica Jacques.
  • Last season Merrimack thrived in front of the home crowd at Lawler, posting an 8-2-5 record in North Andover.
  • Merrimack was picked to finish seventh in the conference preseason poll, while Boston College was picked to finish third.
