NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – Coming fresh off of its first Northeast Conference (NEC) victory the Merrimack College women's basketball team looks to make it two in a row when they play Central Connecticut State University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors enter the game 1-2 in conference play with a win over Bryant and two losses to Sacred Heart and Robert Morris. Tipoff in New Britain is set for 1 p.m.
Five Things to Know:
- Senior Denia Davis-Stewart earned her 1,000-career point last time out against Bryant. The senior now needs only 80 rebounds to become the second player in Merrimack College women's basketball history to score 1,000 points and pull in 1,000 rebounds. Earlier this week, Davis-Stewart was named to the Her Hoop Stats Mid-Major Player of the Year watch list. The end of the season award goes to the best female player at a mid-major school. She is making a great case for the honor, averaging 18.7 points, 13.6 rebounds, and 5.1 blocks per game so far this season.
- Grad student Courtney Clasen has come on strong the last two game averaging 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. Clasen also leads the team in steals with 1.7 per game this season.
- Freshman teammates Jayme DeCesare and Kaylee Thomas are both averaging 11 points a game per conference play. Both are also shooting an impressive percentage from the field. DeCesare is shooting 50% while Thomas is shooting 60% through the first three games of NEC play.
- The Warriors are currently leading the conference in scoring offense (68.8 ppg), scoring defense (59.9 ppg), three-point percentage (.353), blocked shots (6.8) and assists per game (15.4).
- Central Connecticut State is currently 1-13 on the year. Junior Ashley Berube is leading the team is scoring with 12.4 points per game.
