NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Merrimack College women's basketball team will travel to Pennsylvania to take on Robert Morris University on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors enter the game tied for fifth place in the conference with a record of 3-2. Robert Morris is currently in first place in the Northeast Conference (NEC) after winning the first four games conference games of the season. In the first meeting of the year, the Colonials bettered the Warriors by a score of 68-62.
Five Things to Know:
- Senior Denia Davis-Stewart continues to be an important piece of the Merrimack offense. She is averaging 18.6 points, 13.8 rebounds, and 5.0 blocks per contest this season. She is also only 51 rebounds away from becoming the second player in Merrimack College history with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. Davis-Stewart also has an eight game streak of double-doubles that is currently active.
- Though the first five games of conference play freshman point guard Jayme DeCesare is averaging 10.8 points per game which is good enough for second best on the team. She is also tied for the team led in steals with six though the first five NEC games.
- In the first game of the season against Robert Morris, freshman Kaylee Thomas scored 14 points off of 3-4 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line. She is currently averaging 5.2 points per game this season.
- Head coach Monique LeBlanc currently has 119 career wins. She need just two more to pass current record holder Debbie Cogan. Cogan was the head coach of the Warriors from 1986-99.
- Robert Morris is currently 9-6 on the season. Senior Nneka Ezelgbo leads the team in scoring, averaging 14.5 points a game for the Colonials.
